A reminder that our annual Jumble Sale takes place on Saturday 16th February at Winterslow Village Hall. Items of clothing, bric-a-brac, toys etc can be left at the village hall from midday and the sale is open to the public at 2pm. Business is brisk so please come early to avoid missing out. If you need us to collect items from you beforehand please contact a Committee member. We look forward to seeing you.
To all our members,
The delivery of the 2013 yearbooks is underway. Please bear with us as we have been delayed by the recent spate of bad weather but we should have this completed by the end of the first weekend of February. If you haven’t received your year book by then please contact a Committee member or send us an email and we will arrange for delivery.
Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you at the Jumble Sale soon.
The 15th Hampshire Potato Days will be held on
Sat 26 & Sun 27 January 2013
10am – 3pm
Testbourne Community Centre, Micheldever Road, Whitchurch RG28 7JF
Entry adults £2, accompanied children free
Sorry I’m a bit late in posting this as it’s on tomorrow and Sunday but if you’re in the area why not pop in to stock up on your seed potatoes, onion sets, shallots etc. The great thing about this event is there’s dozens of varieties and you can buy tubers singly for just under 20p each. I’ll be there on Sunday on the NVS stand so come and have a chat if you’re there.
With the festivities well and truly behind us snow has arrived and for most of us gardening is the last thing on our minds! But Spring will be here before we know it and now is the time to start planning ahead.
The 2013 Year Book has been printed and will be distributed to members in the next couple of weeks (weather permitting!). Please have your £5 subsription ready. There will be a flyer insert which we’d like members to return in order to gauge the level of interest for various suggestions for trips and talks we can run in 2013.
Our website has been updated with the show information and from time to time we’ll be placing news of upcoming Society events and other local events that may be of interest to members. So please check the website now and again when you get a chance. This blog will also be updated on a regular basis and if you’d like to receive an email notification every time the blog is updated please click the button on the right hand side and follow the steps. Notices will also be published in the parish magazine.
We hope you have a successful year in the garden and look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
Thanks to all who attended our 2012 AGM & Supper. There were over 40 members present at the AGM where a number of topics were discussed including possible events for 2013 and the election of Committee members. The Chairmen and Treasurer’s reports were issued together with information on our Dobies seeds discount and members had the opportunity to see a video on Project Uganda including sight of the new solar powered water pump that the Society helped fund last year.
68 people sat down for Supper after the AGM and were treated to excellent food from our caterer – beef carbonnade with herb scones, mash and vegetables, followed by a choice of orange cheesecake and caramelised oranges or apple pie with custard or cream, cheese & biscuits, homemade chocalates, tea and coffee. The bar served a choice of alcoholic or soft drinks and everyone enjoyed their food whilst viewing the cabbage walking stick entries and taking part in the quiz and raffle.
Many thanks to everyone who made the evening possible, the Committee, the caterer, helpers and most of all the Society members for their continued support. We look forward to a busy calendar of shows, talks and events next year.
The Society’s Annual General Meeting will be held at the Winterslow Village Hall (table tennis room) at 7 p.m. It would be great to see as many members as possible supporting this important meeting.
Following the AGM the Harvest Supper will be held in the main hall, 8 p.m. for 8.15 p.m. Please contact a committee member for tickets priced at £12. There will be a bar open for beer, wine and soft drinks to be purchased. And remember to bring your cabbage walking sticks along, and those that grew them last year, please bring along an item that you have managed to fashion from the stick. Judging will take place across a number of categories from tallest to smallest!
Look forward to seeing you on the 27th.
