Plant Sale Saturday 21st May from 2pm

A reminder that our plant sale takes place this Saturday and is open to the public from 2pm at Winterslow Village Hall.

There will be a plentiful selection of vegetable, bedding and perennial plants for sale at greatly reduced prices compared to your local garden centre.  Please come along and see us on Saturday.

All plant donations are gratefully received and can be left at the Village Hall from midday on Saturday.

Ordance House, West Dean Open Garden Sunday 29th May

The garden at Ordnance House will open again in 2016 supporting the National Garden Scheme. We welcome gardening and horticultural groups of 10 people or more with a charge of £4 per person.

Our public opening will be on Sunday, 29 May 2016 between noon and 5pm. Adults £3.50, children free and dogs, are of course, welcome. Teas and cakes will be available along with a fantastic plant sale of unusual cottage garden plants.

Salisbury Cathedral Close Open Gardens Sunday May 22nd

Donation includes Entry Programme for admission to all featured gardens, payable on the day from Choristers’ Green, & in advance from 17th May from the Friends’ Office, 33a The Close SP1 2EJ.

Nine beautiful gardens in the Cathedral Close are opening to the public in aid of the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral.

+ Teas & home-made cakes will be available in the Bishop’s Garden at the South Canonry – proceeds shared with Sudan Link.

Please use city centre car parks – Culver Street is free on Sundays limited parking in the Close for disabled badge holders only, £6 payable. For further information please contact the Friends tel (01722) 33516.

2016 Year Book deliveries

Happy New Year everyone!

The 2016 Year Book has been printed and will be delivered over the next couple of weeks.  If you haven’t received your Year Book by the end of January please contact a Committee member and we’ll arrange to get this to you.

Inserted in the Year Book you’ll see a one-page flyer.  If you’re interested in any of the talks/trips detailed in the flyer please return this to us as soon as you can.  This will help us gauge member’s interest and tailor the years events accordingly.

Garden Party & Upcoming events

We’d like to take this opportunity to update you on our upcoming events over the next 3 months:
Garden Party
Our summer garden party is being held tomorrow (Sunday 2nd August)  between 2.30pm and 5pm at the Safe’s house on Weston Lane – next to David & Joan Tullis, Lucaya.  Parking will be in the field opposite on Weston Lane.  With a good weather forecast this promises to be a lovely afternoon for our social event with drinks, entertainment and games provided.  Please bring a “plate to munch” with you on the day.  If you would like further details please contact our Secretary Caroline (phone number in the year book).
Summer Show
A reminder that our Summer Show is on Saturday 15th August at the Village Hall.  Details and entry forms are in the year book.  Please note your entry needs to be with a Committee member no later than 6.30pm on Thursday 13th August.  We look forward to seeing as many of you enter as possible – staging of entries on the day is between 8.15am and 10.15am with viewing open to members and the public from 2pm.  Refreshments will be provided from 2pm and there is a raffle being run also.
Apple Talk by Pete Shakespeare
On Friday 9th October we will be hosting a talk on Apples by Pete Shakespeare in the Village Hall – 7pm for 7.30pm start.  Please come along, the event is free, refreshments will be provided (donation please) and non-members are very welcome.  Please bring your apples for identification if you do not know the variety.  Pete will also be diagnosing problems so bring along a sample for him too look at if you have any apple growing issues you’d like investigated.   We look forward to seeing you there.
AGM & Supper
Finally our AGM & Supper is on Friday 23rd October.  Details will be published in the next Parish Magazine and also via an email to members.

Potato Day at Codford Village Hall – Saturday 14th Feb – & other local Potato Days

Codford Gardening Club are holding their Annual Potato Day in conjunction with Pennard Plants, on Saturday 14th February in Codford Village Hall from 10am to 2pm.
The Village Hall is in the High Street off the A36 Salisbury to Warminster
road and is signed.
Admission is £1.50 to include your first cup of tea/coffee and biscuit.
Soup will be served from 10.45am in case it is very cold.
Over 80 different varieties of potatoes to choose from, plus herbs, garlic,
onions, soft fruits and fruit trees, plus everything a gardener will need
for the coming season.

Other dates for your diary – it’s the 17th Hampshire Potato Day next weekend in Whitchurch at The Testbourne Community Centre between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 31st Jan and Sunday 1st Feb.  110 varieties available to buy as single tubers plus lots of other stalls.  Well worth a visit for anyone growing potatoes this year particularly if you have an interest in growing many different varieties.

2015 Yearbook deliveries

A Happy New Year to all of our members. Just a brief note to say the 2015 Yearbooks are being delivered between now and the end of January. If you have not received your Yearbook by the end of January please contact one of the Committee members and we’ll be pleased to rectify this for you. The membership fee remains at £5 per family and dates of our 2015 events can be seen on the second page of this website (click on 2015 events above). In addition to the events listed we are currently arranging two talks and will update the website once we have the details. We’ll also publish the details of upcoming events in the Parish magazine and email those members who have passed us their contact details also. We wish you a successful growing year and hope to see you at one of our events.
